UI Design Case Study— Godkhali Flower Market

Research

Background

The Godkhali Flower Market was established in 1983 in the Jhikargacha region of Jessore district. From humble beginnings, it blossomed to become the largest wholesale flower market in Bangladesh accounting for about 70% of the entire flower supply in the country.

Behind Godkhali is a dedicated community of flower growers with about 6,000 farmers involved in floriculture in Jessore alone and several women leading the teams. In addition to providing locally-grown flowers to florists, businesses and festivals throughout the year, the flower farm & greenhouse are open to the public for various guided/non-guided tours. The market has successfully produced a wide array of cut-flowers over the past few years and hopes to expand further and export flowers internationally.

Pain Points & Challenges

  • Godkhali Flower Market does not currently have a website or official social media channels to promote locally-grown flowers.

At the moment, the Bangladesh Flower Society organizes annual Flower Fests in liaison with USAID and Krishibid Institution in Dhaka city to try and educate people about the flower farm and artisan producers. However, the market does not have a centralized source of information.

  • The government has not fully acknowledged flower farming as a product, due to the lack of public awareness.

Proposed Solution

I identified that Godkhali needed a platform to create more awareness of all the various activities and products that the market offers and authentically engage with visitors and potential customers.
