Windows Server Plug and Play
For Windows Server 2012 R2 AMIs made available before September 10, 2014, we provided an in-place driver upgrade. You can download the software package and run it on your instances.
Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 AMIs published between September 10 and October 14, 2014 are preconfigured with a disabled Plug and Play Cleanup task, so you can stop, start, resize, or reboot as needed. Windows Server 2012 R2 AMIs published on or after October 15, 2014 include an updated paravirtualization (PV) driver that is compatible with the Plug and Play Cleanup task.
If you are unable to perform the in-place driver upgrade on your pre-September 10, 2014 instance, we have provided a script to help. The script allows you to determine if your instance is affected. If it is affected and the device has not been removed, the script disables the Plug and Play Cleanup scan. If the device has already been removed, the script repairs the device, disables the Plug and Play Cleanup scan, and allows your instance to reboot with network connectivity enabled.
