How AI Could Transform Healthcare

- A doctor’s office could AI technology to cut their costs by 20%. In theory, this enables them to drop their prices. A patient who couldn’t afford to come in before can come in now when they get the flu. Instead of missing work (and the income it would bring), they could get antiviral medication to get back on their feet; antiviral medication that might mean the difference between life and death.
- Nurses and doctors could use AI to do their paperwork, freeing up a large chunk of their workday. They could then dedicate this time to patient care. This would have real effects on patient outcomes: When a patient’s condition becomes critical, they would know that patient’s case and what they need, because thanks to AI, they had time to review the case. Or, even better — a patient’s situation would never become critical at all because the doctor was able to get to them before that happened.
- Insurers often have a number of time-consuming and unengaging administrative tasks, such as determining which procedures are related to which conditions. AI could make these determinations in a fraction of the time, at a fraction of the cost. This would cut down drastically on administrative costs, enabling companies to provide insurance at much more affordable rates.
