ISSUE

When you double-click an Excel workbook or a shortcut to an Excelworkbook, Excel starts. However, the Excel workbook does not open, and youreceive an error message: "There was a problem sending the command tothe program"

For XP users,the error is: "Cannotfind the file 'path' (or one of its components). Make sure the path andfilename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

There was a problem sending the command to the program.”

RESOLUTION

For Microsoft Excel 2010 and 2013:

1.       Clickthe File tab, and then click Options.  menu,click  Options.

2.       Clickthe General  tab.

3.       Clearthe  Ignoreother applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

For Microsoft Excel 2007:

1.       Clickthe Microsoft Office Button,and then click Excel Options.

2.       Click Advanced,and then clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic DataExchange (DDE) checkbox in the General area.

3.       Click OK.

For Microsoft Excel 2003:

1.       Onthe  Tools

After youdothis, you should be able to open workbooks by double-clicking them inWindowsExplorer.

Another possible solution you can try it on if below operationsdoesn't fix the problem.

Try the following steps:

Right click on Excel (.exe) > Properties > Compatibility> uncheck all the boxes

To access Excel (.exe), open the following location:

Windows 7 32bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

Windows 7 64bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
