Jair Bolsonaro,Far-right populist（民粹主義者） ,elected president of Brazil

Brazil on Sunday became the latest country to drift（任由某事進入某種狀態） toward far-right, electing  a strident（強烈的，強硬的）

The new president，Jair Bolsonaro ，won by tapping into a deep well of resentment（n，因為被不公平對待產生的怨恨） at the status quo（現狀） in Brazil-a country whiplashed（v，動盪）

“We have everything we need to become a great nation,”Bolsonaro sdid Sunday night in a video broadcast on his Facebook account shortly after the race was called（預測）.“Together we will change the destiny of Brazil.”

Bolsonaro,who will take the helm（掌權） of Latin America's biggest nation,is farther（更遠的，比較級） to the right than any president in the region.

Reeling from the deepest recession（特指經濟衰退） in the country's history,a corruption scandal that tarished（金屬褪色；名譽受損） politicians across the ideological spectrum,and a record-high（歷史新高的） number of homicides last year,Brazilians picked a candidate（候選人） who not only rejected the political establishment（n，候選人，當權派） but at times also seemed to reject the most basic democratic tenets（原則，信條）.

Part of the reason for his victory was the collapse（n，突然失敗） of the left.Many cried  foul after former President Luiz Inacio da Silva,the longtime front-runner（領跑者） in the race,was ruled ineligible（沒有資格的） after he was imprisoned in April to start serving a 12-year sentence for corruption and money laundering（洗錢）.
